While this fruit’s season has passed, longam or lamune. Mostly a summer crop which can be found in Asian food markets even in the fall.

Longam on stems

It’s a real treat to eat this fruit. I’ve eaten pounds of it and not grown tired of it. It’s sort of a grape with a single pit or seed with a husk-like outer skin. It has a wine (grape) taste to it.


Longam can be easily peeled by just squeezing to pop open the husk.

The husk and pit are not eaten. Dried longam can be found all year round though it is not as good as the fresh fruit.
